- guys will know...if you build battleships or tanks in your youth, the odor will be familiar. On that note, only use in a well-ventilated area otherwise y'all might get woozy.I am building a hyper-hyper-detailed LED illuminated fully armed and crewed Apocalypse scale WH40K Capitol Imperialis, and I wanted something other than expensive (and easily dried out) super-glue. The cement also had to be incredibly strong, as the four decks of this monster are already over 50 kilos, and it is nowhere fully kitted out yet. The stress on the articulated tracks, interleaved road wheels, track guards, and four deck would be significant, so any adhesive had better stand up to all that weight. The Weld On 16383 16 cement literally welds PLA together, costs less than super-glue, and once you acclimatize to how the maple-syrup consistency works, you will be more than chuffed with the results.Regarding the viscosity
- yeah, most people would regard it as "thin", but when working with large PLA parts, that "thinness" works to your advantage in the fact that once the two parts are clamped together, the cement flows into _every_ layer line, and depending upon your model's wall thickness, penetrates multiple wall layers of the PLA, creating a chemical bond that King Kong could not separate. Super easy tip: just don't up-end the tube and you avoid it flooding out. No more than 45-degrees of angle or less when dispensing
- let gravity help you.Working time is short, but not too bad...you have about 2 minutes to reposition a part before you are pretty much committed. Squeeze out is easily filed or sanded. It dries transparent for a full bond within a few hours, but let 24 hours elapse before sending it into combat._Caution:_ Thin coats dry almost too fast. If you have unexpected drying before assembly, just let it finish drying, lightly sand, and re-glue. The residual cement will also aid in the resulting bond.I have used this on numerous manufacturer's of PLA
- Flashforge, Elegoo, Geeetech, Sunlu, CC3D, and several others
- it bonds them all to each other. Matte, translucent, opaque...does not matter, though with the translucent or "clear" you will want to go easy and ensure that you glue parts to parts that will not show, especially if LED illuminated. In short, I heartily recommend this cement for all of your 3D printing glue-up needs. One bit of advice
- use some sacrificial parts to hone the skills needed to manage the flow, see how the cement penetrates layers, and judge the dry time.Read moreRead less14 people found this helpfulHelpfulSending feedback...Thank you for your feedback.Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
