They are appropriate for one gallon paint as well, however you'll need to be careful as they'll barely fit and they're very sharp. If you are ordering this for one gallon paint, I would recommend a smaller size. We have to paint our house this summer and the five gallon size is cheaper (per gallon) and we'll definitely need that much paint for the job.These are excellent quality, with a great smooth stainless steel finish and sharp (very sharp) blades. My only reason for removing a star is that they were stuck so tightly together that we barely managed to get them apart. We used a narrow screwdriver to pry them apart, moving around the exterior of the blades until they finally came apart.I didn't read the listing closely enough to understand that they do not come with a shaft. We decided that we could make our own with a piece of all-thread (or a bolt) and some locking nuts, however we haven't constructed that yet.Bottom line: very good quality, sharp blades.
