    • but in the unexpanded state it is only 4.5" thick.The best aspect of this luggage are the hard half-shells on the front and back. They are notably thicker and sturdier material than you typically see in budget luggage. In practice I don't miss having the hard material on the sides, top, and bottom in the expanded state because the corners and the two large faces are where I expect impacts to take place. I think the luggage will still be quite durable.There is no zipper to expand/unexpand the bag. Because the entire middle section is flexible fabric, it just collapses down and is secured by 2 snaps. There are thoughtful pockets in the middle fabric section to stow the snap straps when expanded. On the interior of the bag, there are hard panels that fold down at the top and bottom and snap into place to give the bag rigidity when expanded.Also on the exterior: The handle extends to about 41.5" off the floor. There are 3 adjustment positions. There is a cell phone pocket in the exterior flexible fabric area. The swivel casters (I refuse to call them spinners and you should too) swivel and roll easily. There is a fabric grab handle along the top, but none on either side.
