- Basin Size: This pump should be installed in a gas-tight basin at least 18" in diameter and 24" deep in accordance with local building codes.
- High Level Water Alarm: It is strongly recommended that a high level water alarm be installed. If the pump or switch should fail or if a breaker is tripped, a battery operated alarm will notify you and prevent damage to your home.
- Preventing "Air Lock": Air lock is when air is trapped inside the pipe and stops the flow of water. The pump will run but the liquid will not flow. Although this pump is equipped with an air bleed hole to help prevent this, it is recommended that a small air bleed hole (1/8" or 3/16" in diameter) also be drilled into the discharge pipe. This hole should be located below the floor line between the pump discharge and the check valve.
- Check Valve: Ensure the check valve is designed to easily pass 3/4" solids and installed on the discharge pipe in the correct position. The check valve should have an arrow on it indicating the flow direction. The arrow should point away from the pump. For best performance of the check valve when handling solids, install it in a horizontal position or at an angle of no more than 45°. Do not install the check valve in a vertical position, as solids may settle in the valve and prevent the valve from opening on start-up.
- Maintenance and Testing: After installation, fill the basin with water to test the operation of the pump. Ensure the switch is free to move up and down and does not contact any obstructions. If the switch is obstructed, reposition the pump until their are no obstructions. Periodically test the pump to ensure the pump and switch are operating as they should. Waste can accumulate on the switch preventing the pump from starting. Cleaning the pump annually will also help to keep the pump running in good condition.
