- Suggestions for AP ModeReviewed in the United States on September 6, 2026Verified PurchaseBrief content visible, double tap to read full content.Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.I ordered a couple of these because, even though they are not the latest tech, they are a couple generations newer than what I've been using (for an embarrassing number of years), because of the good reviews and because the price on 'Renewed' items is excellent. You can get 3 for the price of 'New'.I put the AX4400 in AP Mode behind my home network pfSense firewall which provides its own DHCP. If using this configuration I recommend that you be sure to: 1. Go to Internet > DHCP Server and turn the DHCP Server setting to Off. This does not happen automatically when you put the device in AP Mode (You can read about their 'Smart DHCP' feature on-line). 2. Go to Internet > LAN and set Static IP to On if you assign a static IP to this device on your main router/firewall. These two settings will GREATLY clean-up messages being generated in your System Log. Before these changes the AP was renewing it's DHCP lease every 30-40 seconds. When I first setup the AX4400 it worked perfectly. After several hours of flawless testing/operation I then moved it to it's intended permanent location where I had a lot of trouble with it resetting. After reviewing the log I determined that there was a problem with the cable to that location from my main network switch. The old AP that the AX4400 replaced would act strangely sometimes over the years and I could never figure-out why. Now I know. After replacing the cable all is good again. I think the issue there is that the old cable was Cat 5 rated and was fairly long, so was noisy.Once that was resolved the AX4400 works wonderfully. Everything is very smooth. Administration is super fast and easy, the throughput is much faster than the older AX1500 AP it replaced, the range is very noticeably better and the connection seems more solid. I have a second old AP at the opposite end of the house and I am considering replacing it with an AX4000, too.A very positive experience. Not quite as good as the AX6000 that I keep as a backup, but darn close. Great experience at an amazing price.
